ܘܛܠܝܐ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܡܫܡܫ ܗܘܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܩܕܡ ܥܠܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܦܬܓܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܝܩܪ ܗܘܐ ܒܝ̈ܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܠܝܬ ܚܙܘܐ ܕܓܠܐ
dgl' khzw' lyth hnwn bywmth' hw' yqr dmry' wpthgmh khn' ely qdm mry' qdm hw' mshmsh shmw'yl wTly'
The child Samuel ministered to Yahweh before Eli. Yahweh’s word was rare in those days. There were not many visions, then.

ܘܗܘܐ ܒܝ̈ܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܘܥܠܝ ܕܡܟ ܒܕܘܟܬܗ ܘܥܝܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܫܪܝ ܝܩܪ̈ܢ ܘܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܚܙܐ
lmkhz' hw' mshkkh wl' yqrn shry weynwhy bdwkthh dmk wely hnwn bywmth' whw'
At that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see),

ܘܫܪܓܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܕܥܟ ܘܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܕܡܟ ܒܗܝܟܠܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܬܡܢ ܩܒܘܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
d'lh' qbwthh dthmn dmry' bhyklh dmk wshmw'yl dek l' edkyl dmry' wshrgh
and God’s lamp hadn’t yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down in Yahweh’s temple where God’s ark was,

ܘܩܪܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ
'n' h' w'mr lshmw'yl mry' wqr'
Yahweh called Samuel. He said, “Here I am.”

ܘܪܗܛ ܠܘܬ ܥܠܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܩܪܝܬܢܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐ ܩܪܝܬ ܙܠ ܕܡܟ ܘܐܙܠ ܕܡܟ

He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He said, “I didn’t call. Lie down again.” He went and lay down.

ܘܐܘܣܦ ܬܘܒ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܩܪܐ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܩܡ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܐܙܠ ܠܘܬ ܥܠܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܩܪܝܬܢܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐ ܩܪܝܬ ܒܪܝ ܙܠ ܕܡܟ
dmk zl bry qryth l' w'mr dqrythny 'n' h' w'mr ely lwth w'zl shmw'yl wqm lshmw'yl lmqr' mry' thwb w'wsp
Yahweh called yet again, “Samuel!” Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He answered, “I didn’t call, my son. Lie down again.”

ܘܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܘܥܕܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܐܬܓܠܝ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܦܬܓܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ

Now Samuel didn’t yet know Yahweh, neither was Yahweh’s word yet revealed to him.

ܘܐܘܣܦ ܬܘܒ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܩܪܐ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܕܬܠܬ ܙܒܢܝ̈ܢ ܘܩܡ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܐܙܠ ܠܘܬ ܥܠܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܩܪܝܬܢܝ ܘܐܬܒܝܢ ܥܠܝ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܩܪܐ ܠܛܠܝܐ
lTly' qr' dmry' ely w'thbyn dqrythny 'n' h' w'mr ely lwth w'zl shmw'yl wqm zbnyn dthlth lshmw'yl lmqr' mry' thwb w'wsp
Yahweh called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” Eli perceived that Yahweh had called the child.

ܘܐܡܪ ܥܠܝ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܙܠ ܕܡܟ ܘܐܢ ܢܩܪܝܟ ܐܡܪ ܡܠܠ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܡ̇ܥ ܥܒܕܟ ܘܐܙܠ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܕܡܟ ܒܕܘܟܬܗ

Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down. It shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, Yahweh; for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

ܘܐܬܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܩܡ ܘܩܪܐ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܙܒܢܝ̈ܢ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܡܠܠ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܫܡ̇ܥ ܥܒܕܟ
ebdk dshme mTwl mry' mll shmw'yl w'mr shmw'yl shmw'yl zbnyn thrthyn wqr' wqm mry' w'th'
Yahweh came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܗܐ ܥܒܕ ܐܢܐ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܒܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܟܠ ܕܢܫܡܥܝܘܗܝ ܢܨܠܢ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܗܝܢ ܐ̈ܕܢܘܗܝ
'dnwhy thrthyhyn ntsln dnshmeywhy dkl b'ysryl pthgm' 'n' ebd h' lshmw'yl mry' w'mr
Yahweh said to Samuel, “Behold, I will do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

ܒܝܘܡܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܘܐܩܝܡ ܥܠ ܥܠܝ ܟܠ ܕܐܡܪܬ ܥܠ ܒܝܬܗ ܫܘܪܝܐ ܘܓܡܘܪܝܐ
wgmwry' shwry' bythh el d'mrth kl ely el w'qym hw bywm'
In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end.

ܘܐܚܘܝܘܗܝ ܕܕܐܢ ܐܢܐ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܠܥܠܡ ܒܥܘܠܐ ܕܝܕܥ ܗܘܐ ܕܡܨܥܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܗܠܝܢ ܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܠܥܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܟܐܐ ܒܗܘܢ
bhwn k'' wl' lem' bnwhy hlyn hww dmtseryn hw' dyde bewl' lelm lbythh 'n' dd'n w'khwywhy
For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he didn’t restrain them.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܐܡܝܬ ܠܕܒܝܬ ܥܠܝ ܘܠܐ ܢܬܚܣܐ ܥܘܠܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܥܠܝ ܒܕܒܚ̈ܐ ܘܒܩܘܪ̈ܒܢܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܥܠܡ
lelm edm' wbqwrbn' bdbkh' ely dbyth ewl' nthkhs' wl' ely ldbyth 'myth hn' mTl
Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be removed with sacrifice or offering forever.”

ܘܕܡܟ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܨܦܪܐ ܘܦܬܚ ܬܪܥܐ ܕܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܕܚܠ ܕܢܚܘܐ ܚܙܘܐ ܠܥܠܝ
lely khzw' dnkhw' dkhl wshmw'yl dmry' dbythh thre' wpthkh ltspr' edm' shmw'yl wdmk
Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of Yahweh’s house. Samuel was afraid to show Eli the vision.

ܘܩܪܐ ܥܠܝ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܒܪܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ
'n' h' w'mr bry shmw'yl w'mr lshmw'yl ely wqr'
Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son!” He said, “Here I am.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܢܐ ܗܘ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܐ ܬܒܗܬ ܡܢܝ ܗܟܢܐ ܢܥܒܕ ܠܟ ܐܠܗܐ ܘܗܟܢܐ ܢܘܣܦ ܠܟ ܐܢ ܬܟܣܐ ܡܢܝ ܡܠܬܐ ܡܢ ܟܠ ܦܬ̈ܓܡܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܟ ܡܪܝܐ

He said, “What is the thing that he has spoken to you? Please don’t hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you.”

ܘܚܘܝܗ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܘܠܐ ܟܣܝ ܡܢܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܥܠܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܘ ܟܠ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܒܥܝ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܢܥܒܕ
nebd beynwhy dshpyr kl hw mry' ely w'mr mnh ksy wl' ml' klhyn shmw'yl wkhwyh
Samuel told him every bit, and hid nothing from him. He said, “It is Yahweh. Let him do what seems good to him.”

ܘܝܕܥ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗ ܘܠܐ ܐܪܡܝ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܘܗܝ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ
're' el mlwhy klhyn mn 'rmy wl' emh hw' dmry' shmw'yl wyde
Samuel grew, and Yahweh was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.

ܘܝܕܥ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܢ ܕܢ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܒܪܫܒܥ ܕܐܬܗܝܡܢ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܢܒܝܐ ܠܐܠܗܐ
l'lh' nby' shmw'yl d'thhymn lbrshbe wedm' dn mn 'ysryl klh wyde
All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Yahweh.
